Hybrid Car Sales Skyrocket
NEW YORK (AP) - The number of hybrid electric-gasoline cars sold in New York State jumped 28 percent this year. Figures by the Department of Motor Vehicles shows that just over 17-thousand hybrid cars were registered in the state as of May Tenth - compared to 13-thousand-380 hybrids registered in December of last year.
With gasoline prices topping three dollars a gallon across the state, more people have been interested in the hybrid cars - which use an electric battery to travel at low speeds, and have the gasoline engine kick in at high speeds.
Westchester had the most hybrids registered - with two-thousand-98 vehicles, followed by Suffolk with 17-hundred-61 hybrid vehicles.
